A select grouping of Dodge Durango SUVs will soon be voluntarily recalled due to airbag issues. The occupant restraint control modules are to blame as Chrysler LLC produces units for both five and seven passenger vehicles. Given that the Durango is a third row hauler, one could easily fancy a guess as to what the problem actually is. On certain models, the module for five passenger vehicles was installed and could lead to side airbags failing to deploy. So far, Dodge is unaware of any injuries or associated accidents dealing with the affected Durangos and a large sum of at-risk trucks are still in the hands of dealerships.
According to the NHTSA, there are approximately 1,449 SUVs at risk thus far. The affected Durangos are 2013 model year trucks built between April 11 and July 20, 2012. To fix the issue, certified dealers will replace the occupant restraint control module with the correct unit. The remedy will conducted at no extra cost to owners who will be notified during the month of September.
