The two smallest Jeeps which share an underpinning bloodline are being recalled for the same issue. Chrysler Group LLC is under the suspicion that on certain Patriot and Compass models, the fuel tank was installed with a damaged component. Inside the assembly is a valve that halts fuel from spilling in the event a heavy impact and or roll-over and said valve might have been broken during the production process. If an affected Jeep was to roll-over or suffer a severe accident, fuel could leak from the tank and ultimately end in a vehicle fire.
Currently, Chrysler and Jeep are investigating the SUVs and will begin its recall during June of this year. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 1,689 Patriot and Compass models are at risk. All vehicles are 2012 model years manufactured from December 17, 2011 through January 2, 2012. To remedy the problem, certified dealers will inspect and if needed, replace the fuel tank and do so at no extra cost to owners.
