Ford has recently been given an award that has a bit of significance. FoMoCo was named as one of America’s top corporations for its support of women-owned suppliers. This is the first instance that this award has been given to an automaker.
The award was handed out by the Women’s Business Enterprise Council (WBENC), and is the only national award that recognizes corporations for their world-class programs that even the odds for women’s business enterprises (WBEs) to compete for corporate business.
One of the many factors that lead to Ford winning the award, was Ford’s 22-percent increase in spending with women owned suppliers in the U.S., from $866 million in 2010 to $1.06 billion in 2011. Since 2009 Ford has seen its sourcing from women-owned business more than double.
Score one for equality, Ford.
