To debut the next generation of Ford police pursuit vehicles, the sedan and SUV, the upcoming Ford Championship Weekend NASCAR races will be getting a special visit. Running as the official pace cars for the next three races will be the Taurus-based pursuit Sedan and the Explorer-based pursuit Utility. Taking the lead as the main pace car will be the utility, otherwise known as Ford’s first ever dedicated police SUV. Taking the position of split pace car will be the twin turbocharged, EcoBoost powered 365 horsepower pursuit sedan.

“Police nationwide asked for a new kind of weapon in the battle for public safety, and Ford is answering the call with purpose-built vehicles – engineered and built in America – that are as dynamic as they are durable,” said Mark Fields, Ford president of The Americas. With all wheel drive, a top speed of 148 mph and enough mass to make a mark, the Sedan might be a quality replacement for the defunct Crown Victoria. Not only is it more powerful and more precise in its movements, but the new sedan is much more fuel-efficient that its predecessor. The Explorer derived Utility uses a modified version the natural aspirated 3.7 liter V6 that will make at least 300 horsepower. All wheel drive and the space of an SUV come standard.
