American Honda production has finally reached full steam since the March 11 tsunami and earthquake in Japan. Starting immediately is the second shift at the Indiana assembly plant which produces the Civic sedan and Natural Gas. The plant’s annual capacity has now doubled and is back up to its usual 200,000 units which is made sure to be possible by an added 1,000 workers. “We are taking an important step forward in the realization of our dream,” said Honda Manufacturing of Indiana president Jun Nishimoto.
“Our associates have made this one of the highest quality plants in the world, and now we have the opportunity to share their commitment to excellence with even more Honda customers. It’s a great day for Honda in Indiana.” Now that Indiana is back up, Honda has the ability to build 1.63 million cars in North America annually. Last year, more than 87 percent of Acuras and Hondas cruising on American soil were built from components sourced here.
