General Motor’s Warren Michigan transmission plant will be getting a boost and a save via a $325 million investment. Retained and or created will be 418 jobs which will strengthen and add to the currently existing 679 positions. Carrying a major emphasis on building the six speed automatics found in the Traverse, Enclave and Acadia Lambda SUVs, Warren also manufactures the Chevrolet Malibu’s transmission. A collaboration will take place with the United Auto Workers (UAW) union so the plant can begin its next project.

The purpose of the investment is for the development of electric vehicle technology. GM has yet to reveal just what kind of EV components will be built, but one can always gather a guess. There is no true telling, but more than likely future GM hybrid drivetrains and or electric motor assists will be manufactured at Warren.

“This investment in the future recognizes the excellent work force and operation of this plant,” said GM Manufacturing Manager Gerald Johnson. “While we aren’t sharing many details about this product, I can tell you that this investment demonstrates how GM, working with our UAW partners, continues to innovate and bring new electrification solutions to our customers.”
