The annual Michigan State Police Vehicle Evaluation took place earlier in the fall, pitting numerous pursuit vehicle offerings together in a rigorous stream of tests. As of right now, the department only has preliminary results which will soon be followed by the final scores. Each year’s evaluation features a full-out bombing attack on the two-mile variant of the closed course at Grattan Raceway. For the 2011 running, the all-new 2012 Dodge Charger Pursuit V8 did something spectacular by breaking all previous records with a time of 1:33.70.
“Even more impressive is that all four Michigan State Police Vehicle Test Team drivers averaged their fastest times in the Charger Pursuit – reinforcing the driver confidence provided when world-class acceleration, braking, handling and dynamics are combined,” said vice president of Network Development and Fleet for Dodge, Peter Grady. Aiding the Charger Pursuit V8 is 370 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque from its 5.7 liter Hemi V8. Compared to the other offerings from the big three, the Charger’s acceleration times could not be beat. 60 mph was felt from a standstill in 5.83 seconds and 13.65 seconds, 100 mph was found. Those times easily trumped its closest competitor, Chevrolet’s new V8 rear wheel drive Caprice.
