With the recent release of the all-new global Colorado pickup truck came a little bit of disappointment as at first, there was no intent of bringing it to the United States. That has officially changed as General Motors confirmed that a version is bound for the company’s home field. The U.S. spec Colorado will be built and sold solely in North America where as the truck that launches this month is built in Thailand for Europe and Asian markets.

Pricing and full powertrain details have yet to be revealed but Chevrolet did say that the current generation U.S. Colorado will continue to be built at the Shreveport plant into 2012. The global truck runs two all-new Duramax turbo diesels, one of which (the 2.8 liter) makes more than 300 lb-ft of torque. Even though Chevy isn’t ready to disclose the full powertrain details of the U.S. truck, the clean-burning diesel four cylinders might just be able to make it to American soil.

“We think the design, capability and fuel efficiency of the new Colorado will make it attractive to U.S. customers,” said Chris Perry, vice president, global marketing and strategy for Chevrolet.
