Volkswagen of America is issuing a voluntary recall of certain 2011 and 2012 model year Jetta sedans. The sixth generation Jetta built from March 2011 to August 2011 could have a problem if they were equipped with a ‘dealer-installed’ stainless steel exhaust tip from Volkswagen’s accessory line. The tips do, in most cases, extend out too far out past the factory intended pipe. Injury can occur due to excess heat causing burns.
So far, 33,799 Jettas are being recalled. If affected, owners are asked to bring their cars into a certified dealership for inspection and repair and or replacement. Owners will be notified beginning immediately regarding the repairs, instructions and reasoning. The remedy will take place at no extra cost to the Jetta drivers.
