Kelly Blue Book recently released its annual report ranking vehicles and their manufactures on the total cost of ownership. Audi was named Best Luxury Brand by the editors of kbb.com due heavily in part to the A3 and A4. Kbb uses many variables to determine which manufactures produce the most vehicles that will inflict the least amount of extra cost to owners within the first five years of ownership.
Total Cost of Ownership is broken down into depreciation, fuel costs, insurance, maintenance and repair costs and state fees. Kbb.com’s own residual values are also taken into consideration and manufactures are divided into segment categories. According to the editors, the average cost of ownership for Audi is under $70,000, which was better than the other luxury brands including the other Germans, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. The A3 and A4 models with the 2.0 liter turbocharged four cylinder played a big role in Audi’s ranking. The combination of good fuel economy, useable power (211 horsepower, 258 lb-ft of torque) and low depreciation rate make for a low-cost of ownership, especially in a admittedly expensive segment.
