Chevrolet has had some recent success with bringing its european engineering over to its home base. They have decided to try once again by confirming a diesel variant of the compact Cruze for the United States. Since the Cruze debuted in 2008, a diesel version has been on the streets in Europe and Australia and by 2013, the United States will be added to the list. The diesel will add to the already efficient Cruze line up and could potentially exceed the gasoline model’s already impressive 42 highway mpg rating.
The engine that will be found under the hood of the North American Cruze Diesel has yet to be confirmed. In Europe, the Cruze Diesel uses a 2.0 liter turbocharged common rail diesel supplied by Italian manufacture VM Motori. It currently produces 161 horsepower and a large 266 lb-ft of torque but the question of whether or not that powerplant will make it to the United States still remains.
