The next sub-compact to come out of the United States, the Chevrolet Sonic, will be doing so at a highly accessible price. A replacement for the aging and Korean based Aveo, the Sonic will feature a 1.4 liter turbocharged inline four cylinder (like the unit found in the Cruze) and when paired with the six speed manual transmission should achieve up to 40 mpg. With standard features such as keyless entry, 15 inch alloy wheels, power door locks and 10 airbags, the 2012 Sonic should give other subcompacts such as the Toyota Yaris and Honda Fit a run for their money as Chevrolet has announced the base MSRP: $14,495.
“Sonic shares the spirit of Chevrolets like the Corvette by delivering athletic and agile performance,” said Rick Scheidt, vice president of Chevrolet marketing. The newly announced price shows the 2012 Sonic undercutting the Honda Fit by over $1,000. At that price, the Chevy still features the most standard safety features in the segment. Expect to see this all American built sub-compact in dealerships in the beginning of 2012 or sooner as production is planned to start early this fall.
