Sorry Lotus lovers, but it seems official that the mini super car company will be pulling the plug on the Elise and Exige in the United States come August. This will leave us with only one Lotus model, the new larger and heavier Evora. So if you ever thought of purchasing one go to the bank now.
Why? Well, for one, sales are down. Two, a limited supply of Toyota-made four cylinder engines. Oh and, the biggest reason was an end to an exemption that allowed the Exige and Elise around selected federal safety standards meaning if these models were to stick around many changes would need to be made. Wa, Wa, Waaaa.
There is hope however, although being pulled from the US now, Lotus is saying the new generation Elise may return to US soil in 2014. So if you can’t afford one now, start saving for 2014. So come August, goodbye to the two mini rocket ship Lotuses we know today.
