The Volkswagen Golf R is the “in-between” model; placed right in the middle of the GTI and the R32. Soon, VW buyers will have another hard decision to make with another high performance Golf and this time its in convertible form. Running on the 25mm lower suspension as the R hatchback, the upcoming Golf R Cabriolet will be the most powerful rag top Golf to ever come out of the VW factory.
The same 265 horsepower, direct injected turbocharged 2.0 liter inline four cylinder that powers the R hatch will propel the Cabriolet. This means that it will hit 60 mph in a little less than six seconds. More than likely, two transmissions will be optional: the GTI’s six speed manual and the DSG dual clutch automated manual. A special interior will also find its way into the R cabriolet with numerous accents bathed in Nappa leather.
As of now, the Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet is just a concept but there are high hopes for it to find its way into production sometime next year.
