The 2016 Civic Coupe has earned a Top Safety Pick + rating from the IIHS, which is kinda expected from a new Civic, to be honest. In what world would Honda make a new car that wouldn’t be as safe as the public expects them to be?
The + rating means it has all kinds of crazy accident avoidance systems that actually work, like low speed automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, lane keeping assist and road departure mitigation. Also, in that suite of technology called Honda Sensing, there’s also adaptive cruise control which is pretty cool.
It also comes standard with everything you’d expect, traction control, stability control, anti-lock brakes, a rear view camera, etc. All these boring safety features don’t actually make the car that numb or bad though. Although I haven’t driven one myself, from what everyone is saying, the new Civic is a much better car than its predecessor. Roomier, lighter, and actually a lot more fun to drive. So really, for the safety minded consumer who also wants a decently fun coupe, a 2016 Civic Coupe wouldn’t be too bad of a choice.
