While small sporty hatchbacks are common across the pond, a five-door smile-maker is a rare site on these shores. Hyundai, however, looks to be leading the charge to change that. With the all-new Veloster making waves across the country, Hyundai has already turned its attention towards the next big thing. The 2013 Elantra GT.
Aimed squarely at the Mazda3, Ford Focus and VW Golf, the new Hyundai hatch is a fun-to-drive five-door with more interior space than any of the previously mentioned competition.
The new car is powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder producing 148 hp and mated to your choice of manual or automatic transmission, both with six gears. The Elantra GT promises to be good fun, as the 2,745 pound hatch has one of the best power-to weight ratios in its class.
With a sport tuned suspension and available row-your-own transmission option, the 2013 Elantra GT looks to change our perception of five-door fun, and the AutoTalk team can’t wait to experience it for ourselves.
