A new partnership between Nissan Motor Company and Mazda Motor Corporation have created another minivan for the Japanese market. Name the Nissan Lafesta Highway Star, the new for 2012 model is basically a Mazda 5 wearing Nissan clothes. The Highway Star will ride next to the Nissan built Lafesta JOY, which will still continue production.
The Highway Star will be, for all intent and purposes, a Mazda 5 underneath. The same 2.0 liter direct injected four cylinder will be found under the hood as well as the five speed automatic for the front wheel drive model. There will be an all wheel drive Highway Star powered by the 2.0 and a four speed auto as well; which is some thing that the U.S. spec Mazda 5 isn’t offered with. All Highway Stars feature an all independent suspension with a multi link set up in the rear.
Nissan Japan plans on selling 1,200 units a month with a price range between 1,991,850 yen to 2,483,250 yen. The 2012 Nissan Lafesta Highway Star is on sale in Japan only right now.
