Anyone who buys a supercar is looking for more than just performance, they want exclusivity. Audi’s mid-engined R8 has quickly become one of the go-to supercars for its high performance and dashingly good looks. Being the chosen wheels of Tony Stark in two blockbuster films probably helps too, but thanks to all that popularity ti has become a little to common. So what is a person to do when they need a mid-engined German but still want to stand out from the crowd? Well Audi has solved your dilemma with the introduction of the 2012 R8 Exclusive Selection Editions.
Limited to just 50 models, 20 V8 and 30 V10, the Us only model will carry a much higher level of exclusivity than its more plebeian counterparts.
The V8 gets a Daytona Gray matte exterior paint with a carbon front splitter and rear diffuser. Wheels are 19-inch titanium double-spoke, grille trim has been blacked out along with the exhaust finishers, a splash of red paint on the brake calipers and the tail lights from the R8 GT round out the exterior upgrades. The interior of the V8 also features some updating with an exclusive leather package featuring splashes Crimson Red and contrast stitching, an exclusive leather surround for the navigation unit and there is also a thicker steering wheel. If you were hoping for more go-fast to accompany all the visual additions, we regret to inform you that you are out of luck. THe V8 is still teh same 4.2-liter FSI with 430 horsepower.
While the V8 looks sinister with its matte finish, the V10 leans towards the other end of the scale with a bright Ibis White exterior paint. To provide a sharp contrast the sideblades, mirror housings and rear license plate surround are finished in Brilliant Black. The same R8 GT taillamps are included and the V10 receives the 19-inch bi-color e-tron rolling stock. The interior is finished in Ibis with Alabaster White contrast stitching and carbon fiber trim pieces. Buyers will again find the leather navigation surround and the thicker steering wheel.
Either model is available with Audi’s automatic R tronic transmission or a three-pedal setup. Just like R8s previous, Quattro all-wheel-drive is standard. Prices range from $137,700 for a manual equipped V8 up to $170,600 for the R tronic V10. Deliveries are scheduled to begin soon.
