The Ideal Vehicle Awards is an annual customer survey put on by automotive researchers, Auto Pacific. The purpose is to determine which vehicles and manufactures come the closest to meeting customer’s wants and desires. The satisfaction of a new vehicle is broken down into 15 key attributes which owners rate allowing Auto Pacific to come up with their results. Subjects such as acceleration, interior volume, ride quality and quietness all go into consideration to determine the most ideal vehicle. This year, approximately 72,ooo owners were surveyed and the vehicles that would be changed the least came out on top in their respective segments. Here are some highlights from the 2011 AutoPacific Ideal Vehicle Awards.
First things first is this years “Top Brand”: Porsche. For the fourth straight year in a row, the german sports car brand has satisfied its buyers the most. They received five wins: Overall Brand, Premium Brand, Overall Vehicle (the 911), Sports Car (911) and Premium Luxury Crossover (the Cayenne). This winning streak could be attributed to Porsche’s vault-like build quality, high-end performance and or their oddly high reliability. Or perhaps their win due to the company’s resistance to change over the past decades.
The highest overall Mainstream/Popular brand award went to the reborn Chrysler LLC. The newly reformed Grand Caravan and Town & Country minivans took top minivan spot and rightfully so considering how satisfied we were with the Dodge we tested not too long ago. Chrysler LLC was followed closely by up-and-coming Hyundai and classic Ford. The all-new Elantra took the Compact Car award while the Azera won best Large Car. Ford surprised most of all with seven segment wins. Like last year’s survey, this was the most segment wins for a company with best Luxury Mid-Size Car (Lincoln MKZ), Premium Mid-Size Car (Ford Fusion), Hybrid Car (Ford Fusion Hybrid), Large Light-Duty Truck (Ford F-150), Large Heavy-Duty Truck (Ford Super Duty), Large Crossover SUV (Ford Flex) and Premium Mid-Size Crossover (Ford Explorer).
For 2011, the Big Three came out victorious in AutoPacific’s Ideal Vehicle Awards. 11 segment wins went to American-branded vehicles, besting European and Asian brands with seven and six wins respectively. The top rated product segment for this year was the Premium Luxury Car, further proving that American’s love big, luxurious cruisers.
